If you have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer you will need to have a talk with a prostate cancer specialist about the best prostate cancer treatment that are available for you. Some of the options that your doctor may talk about will not be suitable for you so together you can find the cancer treatment that will be most effective for you.

There are a lot of factors that come into play which will affect the prostate cancer treatments that you will receive. Side effects will be common and often men will disregard a treatment because of side effects. For example, the side effects of some treatments are incontinence, impotence and baldness which many men are not willing to deal with.

Of course, if you know that you have prostate cancer you should take steps immediately to make sure you are as fit and healthy as possible before you begin treatment. Your state of health, age, weight, goals and of course your willingness to put up with side effects will be key to which finding the best prostate cancer treatments for you.

You should discuss all of the treatments thoroughly with your doctor as well as a friend or partner. If you are worried about the prostate cancer treatments that you are going to receive you need to share these feelings with your doctor. Your doctor or cancer specialist will try their best to address each of the concerns that you have.

Your age is something that your doctor will look at as it's generally much harder to treat older people with prostate cancer. Often cancer treatments are very aggressive and can be hard to cope with. This is why a lot of older sufferers opt for hormone therapy. Hormone therapy doesn't get rid of the prostate cancer but instead it slows it down and stops the cancer getting worse. The reason a lot of people opt for hormone therapy is because it only has a small amount of side effects which are not usually as bad as if you were to decide on another treatment, surgery for example.

If you are still very fit and healthy (no matter what your age) your doctor will probably suggest that you use a treatment such as prostatectomy, radiotherapy and external radiation. These treatments can cure the disease fully instead of just slowing the cancer down. The general problem with these treatments are the side effects, often they are much more serious that the other treatment options that are available.

Finding the best prostate cancer treatment for you can be difficult. You should always consider all of the options that are available to you and find the best treatment that fits your needs. I know you don't want to have to go through the pain of some of the more difficult treatments but at the moment it's the only way to cure prostate cancer completely.
